Yamaha Montage and Montage M Forum • Questions about the MIDI implementation

Hi,

New to the forum (though, I've lurked for years). I'm hoping someone can help me out with something:
Why do I have both parts 9 and 10 set to channel 9, but ONLY part 9 is responding to external MIDI set to channel 9?? And why can't I freely assign any of the external knobs or pedals on my MIDI controller to any of the Montage M's parameters, in the same way as if they were attached to the M7 itself? I thought the M series fixed this GLARING (and deal-breaking) limitation to the OG Montage's MIDI implementation. That is the ONLY reason why I bought the M7! The idea is that I'd like to be able to COMPLETELY control certain parts, often multiple parts assigned to the same channel, externally from my SL88 Grand/ SL Mixface, while having the M7 act not only as the tone generator, but as the 2nd tier synth in my rig. The docs don't seem to be a roadmap in theses matters, either. Please help me keep this thing! I want so bad to be in love with this unit! But,these are critical features that I need. And I don't want to have to rely on a laptop to achieve these ends.
