The Yamaha Montage and the MODX+ have the same polyphony. The polyphony is also similar to other keyboards from Yamaha and other brands. In some cases, adjustments to the sustain pedal usage can help, however, there are other ways.I think I need to better understand the polyphony inner workings especially regarding the elements and how to better use the sustain pedal to get the results I need. Its feel like a different way of playing with these adjustments, which doesn't exist in other keyboards and other Yamaha series like the montage.
I am still a bit disappointed, but if this was intentional done by Yamaha for the MODX8+ then, so be it. Case closed!!!
The AWM2 engine has 128 voices stereo polyphony. That's 40 notes with 3 layers. The key-off noise is usually irrelevant for polyphony, because it is not sustained. Most people will not hear if the least important out of 40 notes is missing. Depending when it disappears, most people will also not hear it disappearing. That means even with only the AWM2 engine, 3 layers will usually work fine.
As mentioned before, if you would share the performance, and an audio recording, and the MIDI recording, then people might be able to give you more specific advice.
