Have you checked if the internal battery (coin cell, CR2450) is weak? The battery is already sitting in a holder so no soldering is needed in case of replacing it.
Since you don't get anything displayed you can't start the in-built test program to check the battery voltage...
So first of all I suggest to open up the unit, flip the battery out of its holder and measure its voltage - should not be less than - let's say - 2.6V. If in doubt replace it with a fresh battery. Then check if the unit will start properly when switched ON.
If the unit works you can initialize the factory settings by using the test routines: Once the test routines are started you may press [F3] to perform the factory set: Hope it helps.
