But I bought a YAMAHA Volume Pedal (D110 is the only number I see on it?) , plugged it into Pedal 2, and changed the setting to VOLUME.
I don't see ANY reference to a D110 foot pedal on an internet search.

Your invoice should have the model number on it.

I did find this on p111 of the psr-sx900 reference manual
https://usa.yamaha.com/products/content ... =psr-sx900
4 If necessary, set the polarity of the pedal by touching (Menu).
Depending on the pedal you’ve connected to the instrument, it may work in the
opposite way (i.e., pressing it has no effect, but releasing it does). If such a case
occurs, use this setting to reverse the polarity.
I don't know if they are referring to a footswitch or an expression pedal.

You generally do need to make sure you have the pedal plugged in BEFORE you power up the instrument or you can have polarity issues with some pedals. Whether that applies to your pedal or not I don't know.

In the future may I suggest that you:

1. don't purchase a product unless you know it will work with the instrument
2. don't purchase a product if it isn't returnable

No doubt you have already given yourself that same advice.
