Hi Kier,

Excellent video! Thanks for posting the link.

For most people on this forum, who either already own Montages or Montage Ms or who may be planning on buying a Montage, the video serves two purposes, IMO: 1) reassures Montage owners that there were many good reasons to buy them, and 2) your fast-paced demonstrations of features are actually very useful. I learned a few things about my Montage M watching the video.

I'll also add that I sold a Roland Fantom 7 earlier this year and bought a Montage M7. For me, the primary reason for the switch was sounds. This is of course subjective, but to me the Montage has better acoustic piano sounds, better electric piano sounds, and better orchestral instrument sounds. Both keyboards have many many synth sounds and many ways of altering synth sounds real-time. I don't do a lot of synth playing so I wouldn't offer an opinion as to which keyboard might be better for players who do a lot of synth playing. The Fantom tone wheel organ is superior to the tone wheel organ sounds in the Montage, however. Again, my opinion only!

If there are Montage owners reading this who are also somewhat disappointed with the Montage organ sounds, I'll point out that I recently purchased IK Multimedia's Hammond B-3X for iPad and it has solved the tone wheel organ issue for me. It is excellent. I haven't yet figured out how to use the sliders on the Montage to control the drawbars in the B-3X app, but I work around that by judicious use of the presets in the app. I can also move the drawbars by touching them on the iPad screen but that's not nearly as convenient as moving hardware sliders would be.

Aside from workflow and sounds, there's also keybed action. Here I call it a tie: the Fantom 7 action was excellent, as is the Montage M7 action. The key travel on the Montage M7 seems slightly less (distance from top to bottom) than that of the Fantom 7. I adapted to it quickly though, and I love the action on my Montage M7.

I've gotten off-topic a bit. Your video addresses workflows of the two keyboards and you did that very very well. I subscribed to your YouTube channel.

Regards,

Dennis
