As Saul noted, unless the FSX (aftertouch) keyboard and few Super Articulation 2 voices are very, very important to you, I wouldn't make the change.I'm considering to change my sx700 for a tyros 3 because in mine opinion the tyros 3 sounds much bigger than the sx700. Has anyone the same feeling like me?
Other than a few SArt2 voices, the SX700 factory voices are a super-set of the Tyros 3 voices. The SX700 benefits from newer tone generation hardware, enabling REAL REVERB and other DSP effects not supported by the Tyros 3. SX700 expansion is provided by Yamaha Expansion Manager (for better or for worse!) and you would be permanently orphaned by the Tyros 3 in that regard.
I tend to be a "listen, learn and tweak what I got" kind of guy. Why does the Tyros 3 sound "bigger" to your ears? Is the Tyros 3 EQ'ed differently? Were you listening to both the SX700 and Tyros 3 through the same sound system? Is there a way to tweak the SX700 to your personal taste? Maybe upgrade your monitors and tune them for your listening space? You could change to the Tyros 3 and then find yourself back in the same sonic hole...
