Yamaha PSR-SX Forum • Re: PSR-SX900 Discontinued?

Eventually.... Yawn... Yamaha released some tiny little video clips and pictures.
But by then, a lot of us had moved on, and frankly, just got fed up waiting. And I think that's likely where things are now.

I suspect like most people spending out on a new keyboard, you want to know what you're buying... I want to read all about it. I want to study the specs, I want to hear it, I want to See it, and I want to know how much it will cost me, and based on all that, I can make an informed choice on whether it's the right keyboard for me..... Or not!

And that, to my mind is where the G2 marketing fell flat on its backside. I think this 700/900 is going the same route.

Having waiting for SO SO long, and with No information from Yamaha when it did finally arrive, it was. bluntly, a non event. It was, and still is, ludicrously overpriced, the quality was plasticky and cheap looking, and by the time you'd added a decent speaker system, it was getting to be one very expensive buy.

So don't fall for it with the SX700 or SX900.
successor.... If there even will be one..... Nobody knows.

If it comes, it comes..... But rather than believing in smoke and mirrors... Only believe in what you can actually see, feel and know about for sure. Don't put money down and effectively buy blind.
That's rarely a good bet.

I've gone over to Korg. The difference in sheer professional build quality is outstanding. Sorry Yamaha but I was never going to pay around £4.5K for plastic! The older beautiful Tyros builds knocked spots off it!
I think whoever is in charge of marketing new keyboards for Yamaha is not good at their job, and needs to step up the pace.
These days, people won't wait.... They want information, and they want it now, today.... But they also can and will move on if such information isn't available

I won't argue about the build quality; the G1 and G2 feel like toys compared to the PA5x build. It looks and feels fantastic! Yes, the old (made in Japan) Tyroses were still better built as well. The other irony is the better feeling build only as 1 year warranty vs 2 years Yamaha.

The funny thing is, there *was* a pretty noticeable jump from PA3x/Pa900 (same chipset & sound library) going to PA4x/PA1000.
But from PA4x to PA5x, sure they added some new sounds (most noticeably for me the new Orchestral hits, which * are * really good) but it feels barely different. Like the difference from G1 to G2 is bigger than PA4x to PA5x (one of our PA4x owners actually came in and tried the PA5x for a couple of hours, turned to me and asked "other than all the new functions, what's different? Even 75% of the styles were the same (but then we're only going from 300 styles with the last PA4x update to 400 on the PA5x at launch, 445 now with OS 1.3)

If you don't need Registrations, or a huge sample expansion eco system (ie Country & Western, Middle Eastern, Ethnic sounds) then yeah, Korg's great!
