I'd rather have had a like button to just like this post, but Gunnar nails exactly my concerns: you definitely shouldn't upload content from a paid site. But anything you created yourself that you want to share freely? Why not!And this is where the © problem can become a trap.
3. Styles that are currently sold in the marketplace or custom styles created by style developers for sale. These styles should not be shared freely. However, styles that are no longer sold and that are part of a user’s collection would be appropriate to share in my opinion. Someone else might think differently.
PSR Tutorial had a ton of factory style conversions, and a decent amount of old styles no longer sold that were part of people's collections. I didn't see many users sharing their own created styles, probably because it's not so easy to create them.
We all have a responsibility, but who will check and take responsibility that styles, books, midi or whatever that have been uploaded are 'old enough' and exempt from copyright law?
The fact that things cannot be found in catalogues, or are no longer for sale, does not mean that they are free for public sharing.
Another important point is, if someone had self-produced styles or software for sale in an online store, would we think it was okay for the customers who bought to share it freely online?
It would be bad business, and no reason to continue .....
During the years I have been online, I have seen websites disappear and forums shut down.
I have actually had lawyers on my neck regarding copyright when I had a Technics KN related website and forum.
It could have been a costly affair,but luckily my argument at that time was good enough.
