Definitely midi cable, if both have 5 pin (the sx900 definitely does). Most MAudio's don't (you didn't specify MAudio Keystation, Oxygen, V, VI, etc, etc)but even without 5 pin midi, you can buy a midi hub (like DoReMidi) to get it to work that way. But you'd still need to purchased the a/c adapter for whichever M-Audio, as they don't include them (they always assume USB bus powered)
You don't need to move the split point at all; just change the incoming keyboard to "Left" instead of "Keyboard" for note receive on the sx900 midi template. You would also need to set chord recognition to that channel.
