I never like to hear things like that.
Although I can't help you directly I did find the service manual is still available here:
https://www.synthxl.com/wp-content/uplo ... Manual.pdf
I suggest you download it while you still can. There may be some useful tidbits of info in it.
Page 10 covers a 'Dissaembly Procedure'. You might read through that and see if the steps you followed are as described in the doc.
And don't forget a common cause of unintentional damaga: static electricity. Be sure to use a grounding strap or otherwise make sure you and your hands and tools are 'static free'.
Hey Douglas! Thank you for your response and good advice. I did download that SY77 Service Manual. I overlooked that one somehow during my intense search for other operating manuals or "How To" books in addition to the original one that came with it when I bought it new. I went to many music stores in my area (that are sadly closed now) and flipped through the plethora of music magazines, softback books, manuals and sheet music in their "libraries". To my surprise, I found three large additional Handbooks over the first few years that I owned this synth. the first one was a 144-page manual titled "Yamaha SY77 Sequencing Handbook" by Lorenz M. Rychner. The 2nd one was a 166-page manual titled "Yamaha SY77 Sound Making Book Level 1 by Dan Walker and the 3rd was a 354-page manual titled "Yamaha SY77 Cheater's Guide and Cookbook" by Peter L. Alexander and researched by James Maierkey.
So, I will look that service manual to see if I can find some clues. But my gut feeling is that I fried something in the circuitry. As far as static electricity is concerned, my studio is climate controlled and I have never had any problem with static electricity, but doing work like this, I take those precautions you mentioned. But I overlooked the obvious! A costly mistake, in terms of composing music. Now I have to find another keyboard, whether it's another used SY77 on EBay or a new synth, which would probably be my best bet. (I have several added to my Wishlist on Sweetwater) And then in my "spare time" maybe fix my SY77.
To infinity and beyond,
Michael
