Before you take a chainsaw to your MX49, you might want to take a look at the Yamaha SEQTRAK as a tone module. Yeah, they sell it as a groovebox thingy, but you can use it as a tone module.
SEQTRAK has a Motif XF sound set and DX FM (AKA Reface DX). Those would be upgrades over the MX.
Just a thought, anyway. Personally, I don't have the fabrication skills to morph a keyboard into a module. All the cases and cabinets that I build look like the work of a not-very talented ape.![:lol:]( "Laughing")
