Arranger Keyboard News & Discussion • Re: Searching a good keyboard to use to play along with choirs

I can't always use a pedal because sometime i'll be sitting on the floor with the kids around me.

However, suppose I could always use a pedal, what would be a reason that I should get an arranger model over the psre473? What are the ck models usually good for - what's their advantage over the psr sx series?
Hey, "Hi", thanks for waiting.

As others have mentioned, the PSR-SX600 has a SUSTAIN front panel button. The SX600 has better quality voices and much improved style loading/handling over the E473. Yeah, it does cost more.

Unfortunately, the SUSTAIN front panel button is small and is in the upper right corner of the instrument. Personally, I would be more comfortable with a large button on the left-hand side.

One thing to consider is a large latching foot (switch) pedal like the Roland/BOSS FS-5L. You could attach it to the SUSTAIN pedal input. It's bigger than a front panel switch and you could place it where it is most convenient for you. Dunno about you, but I don't have spare brain power when playing to find a tiny front panel switch...

Another possibility. SUSTAIN is just a MIDI message (Continuous Controller number 64). On some keyboards, you might be able to assign CC64 to the modulation wheel (or a button).

As to why CK or these other suggestions, I'm just trying to suggest alternatives, maybe an arranger, maybe not.

Have a merry holiday -- pj
