Is the output level suitable for the mixer, or you have to crank up the gain way too high (picking up a lot of noise on the way)?
These mixers do not have inputs matching guitar impedance, they can only do mic or line. The Mackie ProFX for example has a HI-Z button in the first two inputs that can then be used for guitar connections.
For the MG, you would normally plug your guitar into a DI box and this to the XLR input (it send a mic level signal). I am using this DI Box:

and it works just fine. It can be powered by the mixer's fantom power or a 9v battery.
