I recently got a MODX6+ and want to use it alongside a Roland Juno DS 73 as my main rig for top40 bands. I've used Mainstage for the last 10 years but want to finally leave my macbook at home. Coming from Mainstage I'm probably a little spoiled by the fact that anything is possible inside the computer and now I'm facing some problems. I want a performance for every song which loads all the sounds/layers/splits on both keyboards
I ask myself, what's the best way to set up both keyboards. So far only option A seems to work to be honest...
Option A:
Use the Juno only as a midi keyboard, sending midi on channels 9-16 and I can create splits and layers on the modx for both boards. This works, I only cannot find a way to get the Juno controllers to control the knobs in the modx on the common level of the performance. The bigger downside here is that I cannot use any of the Juno sounds.
Option B:
Use option A but use parts 9-16 to send midi back to the juno via the zone settings and incorporate the Juno sounds into the perforance. I can play the juno via the modx keyboard without problems, BUT I cannot make the Juno "play itself through the modx".
Juno Midi Out Chan. 9> Modx Midi in > Part 9 > Zone Settings ON Transmit to Chan 1 > Modx Midi Out > Juno Midi In >>>doesn't work! why? What am I doing wrong?
Option C:
Use the modx sounds only on the modx and program performances on the Juno as well (which is a lot of extra work and not ideal). This should work and I already managed to send Program Change form the modx to the juno to switch performances BUT the modx keyboard is always playing the sounds in the juno on every channel that's activated (from 1-8). Is there a way to stop this???
Option D? Is there a better way? Am I missing something?
