Korg Forums • Re: Any "unbiased" comparisons between the Nautilus and MODX+...?

Saying the Nautilus has SSS in that case is like saying the Genos1&2 have SSS... they *can*, but it certainly can fail (spectacularly).
Sure, seamless switching can fail. Besides examples already mentioned, Fantom won't have it if one of your sounds is V-Piano. Kurzweil won't have it if you're using the KB3 tonewheel organ engine. etc. But there is a difference between a board like Genos, where you usually don't have it unless you specifically set up things in a way that can make it work, and boards like Montage/Kronos/Fantom where you usually do have it as long as you avoid doing the occasional thing that can break it, or pushing the board to its limits (which admittedly is not always easy to determine) . Nautilus should still be in that second category.
i was never able to get a Kronos to make an audible pop like that.
That's really interesting. I wonder, is there any chance that the Nautilus you were using was defective? Have you been able to duplicate the problems on another Nautilus, or have known others to report the same problem? At any rate, if only one voice causes a pop (reverse piano), I don't think that would justify saying the board doesn't have seamless sound switching. As for other things that dropped out (but didn't make a pop), there can be all kinds of reasons something could hit the limits of polyphony or of effects processing. Korg's own polyphony specs even point out that polyphony can drop as you combine more sound engines, and running out of polyphony can easily cause previously held notes to drop out.
