Agreed, Gunnar, it's almost all been covered there!
But the sx920 is basically a slightly stripped down G1, not a G2, keep that in mind.
If you're going to compare anything, the sx920 still has some advantages over a similarly priced (and nearly identical sound library) to Genos1: The Sart+ voices really add a lot to the new Chinese and Indonesian packs. So much so that I've requested Yamaha to implement compatibility in the G2!
PSrsx920 is smaller and with built in speakers.
You're basically asking if there's a discernable sound difference between G1 and G2, and the answer is a resounding yes *if* you're comparing orchestral, dx7 sounds, and especailly basses (acoustic upright slap, Paul McCartney bass, new S.Art 2 basses, new upright & grand pianos, and really improved reverb). So very noticeably with Sci Fi March, Action Anthem, Desert Adventure, and everything in the Big Band/Jazz section, also 80's retro pop due to the DX7.
HOWEVER the difference is imperceptible when comparing 80'sPowerRock. So it depends on the Genre what makes a difference and what doesn't. All covered in that other thread, except I hadn't tried the China packs and *wow*. I mean, I expected the new 286mb pack to sound better than the old 16mb one, of course, but it's the expressiveness that blew me away, and currently that's exclusive to sx720/sx920
As for 'not cheesy or thin', click on my YouTube channel, I have 4 G2 demos currently, and am working on my first sx920 ones as well as new G2 ones.
