Agreed, the KC series... let's just say I don't actively try to sell them
If anyone comes in asking for recommendations, I *do* recommend the roland PM100/Pm200 drum monitors, those are clean and clear! But the KC's all sound like mud. Every one I've ever tried.
Oh the K8.1's are a slightly different beast, as they weren't as clear as their K10.1/12.1 bretheren. Inexplicably so; and when you switch the extra sub mode on, it sounded brilliant on the 10's and 12's but weirdly the bass reflex sounded very 'nasal' on the 8's. We never sold the 8's! I actually forgo that they existed. We *do* sell the K8.2 (much more... clear and balanced tone. I still can't get over how... concussive? the K8.1's souded.)
MSR's were awesome; we used to sell a ton of MSR400's as more durable alternatives to the Mackie SRM's. Shame that entire series was dropped like 15 years ago :1 Which is about when the QSC's came in and took the reigns; *especially* the wooden ones
If you struggled to lift the K8.1's (27lbs a piece), then don't even attempt the lift the wooden ones; the KW122's sound awesome (and for $2k *each* speaker, they'd better!) but 49lbs each!
Yes, my back has recovered 95%, but there are still keyboards and speakers (especially subs) I just won't lift anymore :p Heaviest I remember was the Mackie SRM 3 ways (can't remember the model, something like SRM1760 or something like that) at over 100lbs *each*
Good thing I was still in my (late) 30's back then.
