Thank you all for the ideas. There are lots of options here.
Here is how I solved this to achieve having two playing multi pads replaced with two different multi pads, with a single registration button push.
I created 2 new multi pad banks (“Valsa 1” and “Valsa 2”), with info only in the first two slots (copied over from the originals using Select>Menu>Multi Pad Edit)
Valsa 1:
1: 3-4BeatAccordion SteirischerBass2
2: PianoArpeggio 8Beat2
Valsa 2
1: 3-4BeatAccordion SteirischerBass3
2: PianoArpeggio 8Beat 1
The music I’m working with is a waltz that has an A part and a B part, each repeated once before moving on to the next verse. The Style I’m using is Slow Waltz. The source multi pad banks are Arranger Loops> 3-4BeatAccordion, and Arranger Loops>PianoArpeggio
So, I programmed multi pad parts of the registrations as follows (all were programmed with synchro start on for the selected multi pad (but not for the style)):
R1: Valsa 1, pad 1
The first pass of the waltz part A, with just Valsa 1, multi pad 1 playing (so as not to get to busy too quickly)
R2: Valsa 1, pad 2
The second pass of part A, now with Valsa 1, pad 1 continuing and pad 2 being added.
R3: Valsa 2, pads 1 and 2
For the two passes of part B, this replaces the two pads playing with the two different pads I wanted playing for part B (with two pads from different original multi pad banks).
R4: Valsa 1, pads 1 and 2
Back to Part A of the waltz, again replacing the two playing pads with the other two pads.
I went on to experiment with more complexity and more layers, including recording my own multi pad and seeing how that fit, but all are based on this basic setup, where two playing multi pads are replaced with two different multi pads using 2 Multi Pad Banks called up by registrations, so that the playing multi pads are displaced by the new ones.
Maybe this will be helpful to someone. Thanks for the responses and the suggestions. I learned a lot today.
Now, maybe I'll go learn some more music.
