This worked for me, though I had to remove the "hidden" drivers in device manager. Basically, every time you put the modx in a new USB port, it hides the previous one and adds an incrimental numerical prefix to the driver names. Mine was 6-MODX, but when I clicked view in device manager, and then show hidden devices, all the other 0-5 devices showed up. So I removed all those, scanned for hardware changes and now can use soundmondo fine to transfer. See this stack exchange question for more info https://superuser.com/questions/1757426 ... d-settingsHi Airlane,I have a new MODX which has a sticker on its front suggesting I connect to soundmondo.com. I did so using Google Chrome and found an unhelpful, bare site which seems to have been abandoned by Yamaha. The Sync button at the top tells me my synth is disconnected but fails to offer a suggestion as to what I must do. On this forum and yamahasynth.com there are posts from a few years ago detailing other MODX users' problems with Soundmondo but solutions seem difficult to find.
I looked at the Soundmondo FAQ page by Blake Angelos which tells me to check Chrome's MIDI Devices settings: I found this already set to Sites can ask to connect to MIDI devices and the site https://soundmondo.yamahasynth.com:443 is Allowed to connect to MIDI devices.
Can anyone suggest how I might connect to this site?
This seem to be a quite common issue and most of the time it's either the MIDI permissions in Chrome or even more likely the midi device/port name of the MODX in the computer.
The usb driver is sensitive to which physical port you connect your MODX to and if you move the cable from one usb port to another the MODX usually get identified with a different name which effectively break the Soundmondo connection.
The site have the midi device name "MODX-1" hardcoded so "2-MODX-1" etc will not work.
I'm only a Windows user and the process might be different using a MAC but I can suggest to check the modx device name in Windows Device manager or in your DAW (if you use that) and see that it's reported correctly.
These images try and show the difference starting with Numa Player and how the MODX is reported. (it should say MODX-1 and not 2-MODX-1 or any other combination).

In device manager (sorry about the swedish heading but it basically says sound devices)

Uninstall/reinstall the driver usually fix it and later keeping track of which port was used when first connecting the MODX after installation and continue use that mitigate the issue more long term.I agree that there is work to be done in Soundmondo but I've not had any big issues using it myself. It is however as you state quite strange and confusing that they have choosen to redirect to a upload page whenever you try and download the sound. This resulted in quite a few duplicate performances when Soundmondo was first introduced and I guess it still happen. It does not work for me either. It has been like this for many months.
Incidentally I tried again yesterday. Reinstalled the Yamaha USB-Steinberg driver (I read somewhere that it might be that), it recognised the MODX fine, then went to Soundmondo (Chrome as suggested), logged in, it gave me the green light icon, pressing Sync whenever I want to download a sound to the synth, it takes me to a page that asks for info about a sound to be uploaded (!!?).
It is quite unbelievable that Yamaha does not dedicate any resource to make it work.
There have been suggestions in ideascale to change this behavior but still no action from Yamaha side.
When pressing the sync button it should send the sysex to the MODX but make sure the usb midi mode in the MODX is selected (UTILITY -> Settings -> MIDI I/O --> MIDI IN/OUT = USB (the picture show the exact config I use and this works for me)
midi_mode_modx_01.pngIn order to use the sysex files you need a program like MidiOX (http://www.midiox.com/) or similar to send the performance to your MODX.Thanks for this. Yamaha should stop advertising Soundmondo on the MODX's case, given that it doesn't really function. It is quite unbelievable that Yamaha does not dedicate any resource to make it work.
This thread viewtopic.php?t=11875 near the end shows a site that mirrors the sysex files externally. (Haven't tried it yet).
Good luck and please post here how/if you succeeded in making it work.
I'm unsure how to install the files from that mirror site. I use the John Melas performance editor, but I don't have any of his other programs. Is it a simple procedure?
Also make sure to use the modx package as the files in montage package will not work without modification (different device id in the sysex code which isn't directly compatible with MODX).
Hope this help both of you to get it up and running.
Though when it has synced, I don't know where to find the sound within my MODX system, and neither can I hear anything.
Any tips would be helpful.
