It's like any other vst or au plugin, you can load it on any computer with a DAW host, and play the Montage performances from any hardware setup/keyboard controller.

A real Montage M is irrelevant to using the plugin other than if you're wanting to sync your real hardware data.

The licencing is set automatically when you install it via the Steinberg e-Licencer. You shouldn't have to manually do anything when installing it other than typing in the access code for download and being logged in to a Steinberg user account, which you set up if you don't have one.
You only have to do this initially on the install, and after that everytime you open it, even if you have no internet connection, it will just work.

The Steinberg licencing is finally a bit more useable now, and very similar to the way Native Instruments do it.

Steinberg allow you to install it on up to 3 computers, as a long as you only use one copy at a time.
I have it installed on a Mac Studio at home, and also have it on a Macbook Pro which works with any of my other pianos/controllers/audio interfaces.
