Interesting to say the least. I've heard and watched a gazillion demos online regarding both the Montage M and the Nord Stage 4. I actually bought a M8x but ended up returning it because the poly aftertouch was rather hard to trigger even with my strong hands, and it weighs a ton figuratively speaking. I'm no spring chicken, but I'm also fairly fit and physically active, but for all practical purposes the M8x is basically a set it and forget it keyboard. Unless you have the bucks to employ roadies that can transport it for you, gigging with the M8x would be a real chore for older musicians to haul back and forth on a regular basis. The Nord Stage 4 88-key pianos sound fabulous, and the keyboard itself is almost 20lbs lighter than the Montage M8x. I think the Nord Stage 4 has better pianos overall than the Yamaha Montage M, but that's my own personal opinion judging by my own ears, of course. I haven't played a Nord Stage 4, but I'm sure the online demos give a pretty accurate account of the overall sounds. Same with the Montage M. Btw, I took an audio hearing test several years ago and I basically aced it. The audiologist at the time said my hearing couldn't be any better. I smiled and said thanks.
I will add that the other sounds on the Montage M are fantastic in my opinion, including the new An-X analog engine sounds and Yamaha finally upped the ante with the Montage M VCM organ engine so the rotary B3 type organ sounds are a lot better than the previous model. Also, the sampled acoustic sounds are excellent and in some cases superb. I just wish Yamaha had included poly aftertouch for the M6/M7 because if they had, I would have purchased an M7 and kept it because it's a lot lighter than the M8x, needless to say. Enjoy your new rig and happy playing. ![👍]()
