A friend had the E15 that I guess is the lesser model of this. I believe he still has it actually.
At that time I was so much into Yamaha arrangers that I didn't even know Roland was making arrangers as well.
I played it a few times back then and was impressed mostly because it really sounded very different from Yamaha (At that time I had the dreaded PSR-2500)
Shortly after I bought my first Roland synth, XP-60. This friend actually ended buying it from me.
Went back to Yamaha arrangers for a while before getting the Montage.
Looks like Rolands adventure with arrangers was kind of short lived. But they came back with the new GoKeys.
I wonder if we'll see more powerful ones coming.
While the E20 belonged to the first generation of this series of (arranger) keyboards, the E15 already came from the second generation back in 1991. If I remember correctly it already had better sounds. I would lean myself out of the window that much and state that Roland dominated the keyboard market in the 90s. After the E80 in 2006, Roland sadly never developed anything note worthy and left the field to Yamaha. The XP-60 was/is a great instrument.
