I would think the manufacturer would actually prefer you to fix it yourself rather than them paying a crazy service fee under warranty.

What a manufacturer doesn't want -- ham-handed people trying their own repairs, botching the repair, and then making a warranty claim. How many plumbers and electricians get called every day to fix a botched job?

So, they huff and they bluff.

Man, I haven't seen a "do not remove" warranty seal in a zillion years.

For all folks, check your national/regional laws WRT warranty. YMMV.
