I’m starting to set up my rig for this year’s tour and wanted to check in to see if anyone has suggestions or feedback before I finalize everything.
I’ve just ordered the **iConnectivity MioXL**, and I’ll have some time to experiment before everything is locked down — so now’s a good time to think things through.
### My Goal
I want to be able to **mirror the same MainStage sounds across both my Yamaha Montage M8X and Kurzweil PCx**, so I can play the same patch from either keyboard depending on the situation.
The reason is that I’ll be using an **L-shaped rig**:
* One side with a **Korg Triton** on top
* The other side with an **Expressive E Osmose**
… and at times I might want to trigger the same MainStage patch from either of those, or from the Montage/Kurzweil.
### MIDI Channel Strategy
Currently I’m thinking:
* Montage on **MIDI Channel 1**
* Kurzweil also on **MIDI Channel 1**
But will this create problems with **patch changes** or MIDI conflicts — especially since I’ll be sending patch changes *to* both keyboards from MainStage?
If so, how can I acheive both patch changes, and being able to play the same patches in mainstage on both keyboards?
### My Workflow
* Sometimes I use **internal sounds** from Montage or Kurzweil, and in that case I’ll have “blank” patches in MainStage.
* Other times it’s the opposite — MainStage sounds only, with the keyboards acting just as controllers with a blank patch on the keyboards.
### Setup Overview
*Yamaha Montage M8X** – Main keyboard, internal & MainStage sounds, MIDI Ch. 1
*Kurzweil PCx** – Secondary keyboard, internal & MainStage sounds, MIDI Ch. 1
*Osmose** – External sounds via MainStage, **MPE (MIDI Ch. 1–16)**
*Korg Triton** – Internal sounds only, **MIDI Ch. 3**, patch changes from MainStage
*Meris Mercury X** – Reverb pedal via Aux Send on **Radial KL-8**, **MIDI Ch. 3** for program changes from MainStage
### Interfaces and Routing
*MioXL** for MIDI routing
*Radial KL-8** as USB audio interface
USB A** → MacBook
USB B** → Mac Mini (with failover)
I’ve attached a diagram of how I think this will be wired up.
Any thoughts? Suggestions for routing, channel assignments, or ways to optimize patch changes?
Is this setup rock solid, or does it need improvements?
