Yamaha MODX and MODX+ Forum • Re: volume not on 0 for some sounds in modx+

I just got a modx+8 ( wonderful sounds !) and I have a problem with the volume of some parts.
For example, I want make a new performance, and I add a sound for each part (1 bass, 2 guitar, 3 piano, 4 attack brass)
For some sounds, "attack brass" for example, I can't set the volume to 0 even though the fader is at the minimum level,
it's continue to hear the sound.
In the video, I can see that the performance is named "CFX + FM EP 2". I guess you were editing the preset performance with this name. Based on that, I am fairly sure that you are experiencing the following issue:

The MODX has a modulation matrix (aka controller matrix) that can be used to map modulation/controller sources to internal parameters (destinations). In the preset performance "CFX + FM EP 2" there are such mappings in both parts from the assignable knobs to the part volume. These mappings can increase the effective volume, and result in a non-zero volume even if the sliders are at zero.

When you edited the performance, some of the mappings were kept.

One way to avoid such issues is by starting from an Init performance (e.g. Init Normal AWM2), and adding parts to it. It does not avoid all such issues, because by important a part, the MODX also imports the corresponding mappings, which can result in surprising effects. However, it is less likely to cause issues, because the Init performances contain no mappings for the performance-level assign knobs.
