Yamaha Montage and Montage M Forum • Re: question about output levels from TRS jacks

Are the output TRS jacks on Montage unity gain, or does the volume control affect signal level if connected to an external device? Does the volume control only change headphone output, not the Balanced TRS jacks?
As asked it's not clear how to best answer your questions. A lot depends on just what you are trying to do.
Are you connecting the Main L&R to a mixer or pre-amp?

Gain and Volume aren't the same thing. Gain typically refers to an 'input' while volume typically refers to an 'output'.
But for some use cases (maybe yours?) an output that goes to speakers/monitors could instead be an input that goes to a mixer.

The default on my M8X is +0db as can be seen on the 'Utility -> Settings -> Audio I/O' screen (p264 of the reference doc)

On that screen you can change that setting as described in the doc
Main L&R (Analog Output L&R Output Gain)
Sets the output gain of the OUTPUT (BALANCED) jacks.
Settings: −6dB, +0dB, +6dB, +12dB
If you change that setting while listening to monitors connected to the Main L/R outputs you will hear a change in volume.

If you are referring to the front panel Master volume knob it will affect them all.

Can you provide more info about the configuring and cabling you are using and what your concern is?
