After digging through the tables in the manuals, I don't know how Yamaha could have made this MORE confusing.
In the tables the columns are g h p, for group, sub-group, parameter number.

To set the Transpose parameter,
The format in memory is actually 0ggg gghh then 0ppppppp.
So, a 0 1 144 in the table equates to: group number = 0x4 +1 = 1 decimal = 01h in hex.
The parameter number in the table is decimal, so it's parameter 144 which is Transpose. 144 decimal = 90h in hex.

To set the Transpose parameter, an example command in sysex is: F0 43 10 01 90 18 F7
F0 - Start of System Exclusive Parameter Change
43 - Yamaha's ID Number
10 - Device Number 1n, where n = 0 for the first DX7 in the midi setup.
01 - Group Number gh (0ggg gghh)
90 - Parameter Number p (0ppp pppp)
18 - Parameter Data dd0-127 (7 bit, leading 0, 0ddd dddd) so 18h is up two octaves, 24 steps.
F7 - End of System Exclusive

One more example, a Supplement Parameter Change: F0 43 10 19 15 3E F7
Let's set the Pan Control Range.
In the table that is 6 1 21 So the group number is 6x4 + 1 = 25 = 19h.
The Parameter number is 21 = 15h.
F0
43
10
19 - Group Number
15 - Parameter Number
3E - (a value, what ever you want, 0 to 99 decimal but converted into hex).
F7

Got it?
