The reason for you thinking there is a problem is likely you have not figured out how the programmer (and the people you’ve seen performing it) make the ‘flutter effect’ work.Hi everyone, I do have a similar problem as omer_g23:
The preset "Cinematic Flutes", which is showcased in serveral demonstrations by Yamaha itself and other musicians, does not work properly on my brand-new Monatage M8x.
The 6th part of the sound, called "Woodwind - Flute - Flutter FX Hi Vel" rests completely muted - no matter what I try. If I edit this particular part of the preset, it does not react to any changements of the sliders or whatever ... And subsequantly the effect of fluttering flutes does not show at all
What could be the reason for this problem?
Moreover I noticecd that sometimes the volume of any chosen sound suddenly decreases without any intervention from my side. I do not touch any control while I'm playing on the keyboard and nonetheless the volume reduces itself about the half ...
What could be the reason for that really annoying problem?
The instrument is brand-new!
How do I proceed in this case?
Thanks in advance, Slightly_Time
First hint is in the name "Woodwind - Flute - Flutter FX Hi Vel" — you will only hear the Flutter after a note has been struck with sufficient Velocity (in this case, Velocity between 119-127… and as you’ll discover Part 6 AssignKnob 3 increases the Delay Time before the fluttering begins.
Here’s how to analyze this flutter tongue Part
If you SOLO Part 6 (tap the Solo icon for Part 6 in the screen) then push [AUDITION] — let it play all the way through — you will hear what the flutter effect sounds like. It is used in the Audition - this means YOU have access to it when you play.
Here’s how to work with this sound — if you make the following adjustments, you will see how easy it is to then set the Velocity Range settings that works best for you.
With Part 6 *selected* press EDIT
The top line of your screen will indicate “Edit __ Part 6 _ Common” followed by a box indicating four Elements make up this Part 6 has the following Elements active: 1-2-3-4
Next select “Elem1” — this can be accomplished in the screen by tapping “Common” then selecting “Elem1” from the drop down. Or you can use the left front panel buttons: Press and hold the red [SHIFT] button, the buttons under the Sliders turn lime green… press [1]
With Elem1 selected the “Osc/Tune” screen will give details on this Element (one of four ‘flutter’ Elements)
Find “Elem Vel Limit” and “Elem Note Limit” at the bottom of the screen
Tap the “Elem Vel Limit” box — this is the Low Limit.
A pop-in menu appears allowing you to enter data via the Keyboard or via the numeric keypad.
Set the range to 60 — 127
Select Elem2 set the range to 60 — 127
Select Elem3 set the range to 60 — 127
Select Elem4 set the range to 60 — 127
This will allow you to more readily apply the flutter effect… Once you are convinced it actually does work, set it to your particular range preference and [STORE] and reNAME it as a User Performance.
Notice that each Element has a Note Limit range — only when a note is played in its range will that flutter Element sound.
The top line of the screen has radio button icons that indicate when an Element is sounding. They come on only when a note-on matches the Velocity Limit Range and the Note Limit Range set for the Element.
Extra Credit:
Notice that the Part 6 Assign Knob #3 allows you change how long before the flutter Element begins sounding. If this is turned up you will need to hold a note down longer before the flutter tongue Element starts. Set to taste… you may not want it to start immediately…, it’s your choice.
Polyphonic Aftertouch is not programmed, at all, for this Part. (It is used elsewhere but not on this). Just FYI.
Hope that helps.
