Those greedy bastards!
I like Yamaha gear in the quality respect besides the G2. At least they are catching up in the software or plugin department.
Yamaha are eggheads who aren't very user intuitive or practical they are just too scientific.
They make a way to achieve a task but it's so unobvious or totally ambiguous. They rely on evolution and recycling more than back in the FM/DX days of setting the standards.
They mostly only follow these days and copy what others have done such as the SeqTrak and Teenage Engineering. When's the last time they did something revolutionary? Still using the same AWM2 but I think they've reached a limit that can't be surpassed without a whole new world of change.
Black Corp had the make the Deckard's Dream because Yamaha I assume will never revive the CS80 for the common man. I guess Behringer is duplicating it now as well. How many of us does Yamaha think can afford a real CS80? A remake isn't that impossible with today's technology.
Occasionally we get something new like PAT on the M8x or the YC stage organ. Now manufacturer's are dumbing everything down to $400.
This is the new trend such as SeqTrak, Go Keys, Minifreak etc. I really like the Oberheim OB-X8m & Deckard's return to the past because today's simulated boards just can't do it like these can. Everything has reached it's limitation and so now we have all of these pocket sized units and modules available.
Why doesn't Yamaha release a real analog modern synth? Something new and fresh. That would be cool, the other stuff has run it's full course again now with Montage M.
Yamaha would probably have to perfect and release an Osmose type unit with MIDI2.0 that takes this technology to another level maybe with AI. Not sure they will lead the way ever again and even here they'd be copying the Osmose idea which is pretty special. What else is there to achieve? A helmet you wear that reads your mind and writes the music for you or designs the voice you want instantly.
