Interesting, as in Europe Fantom EX is more expensive than Montage M6 (assuming you can get hold of an M6, not very easy as Yamaha decided to not allow online resellers to stock it). It used to be the original Fantom was about the same price as the classic Montage but they now added more than 1000 euros to the price for a firmware update and an expansion pack. So it's not just Yamaha that makes no sense.
Ranting aside, I am certain the Fantom is an amazing instrument and you will enjoy it. I have smaller Roland synths which are a joy to play.
