All this talk about the GoKeys got me thinking about the state of my musical equipment, which is historically not a good thing for my finances.
I was all set to buy a Montage M last fall, until the M6 was missing an "X" in its name. And since Yamaha chooses not to release a proper version of the M6/M7 (with PAT) I decided to jump ship and get a Roland Fantom EX. It arrived today and It is an absolutely beautiful piece of equipment. No it doesn't have PAT, but it's not priced as though it did. I don't have any brain bandwidth and time invested in the Montage platform (had a Motif for twenty years) so it's not that hard to move along to a different platform. I am keeping my MODX+ for those sounds that Yamaha does uniquely well so will continue to visit the forum to see what's going on in the Yamaha world.
I need to figure out how to control the MODX+ with the Fantom. I assume this is a simple MIDI connection, but maybe nothing is simple, so look for future posts!
Speaking of manuals (was I speaking of manuals?), the Owner's Guide that ships with the product is marginal at best and is only 20 pages long. It did allow me to figure out how to power on the machine and output several sounds, so job done I suppose, if half-assedly. The Reference Guide (online only) is I think 180 pages; it actually explains how to use the board. Then there's the Cloud user guide and the DAW Integration guide etc etc. I can understand why they don't want to ship the keyboard with hundreds of pages of documentation, but still...it would be handy.
Anyway...thanks for hearing me out and wish me luck in the Fantom world.
