It never happened. You can get some nice CS80 sounds out of a Montage, even more so now the M series has AN-X.
Also synths like the Novation Summit emulate it quite well. Then you have the boutique facsimiles like Deckard’s Dream.
For me the ASM Hydrasynth gets close as well, though you might not twig that from the presets and show cases which tend to show the Hydrasynth as cold and digital, but it doesn’t have to sound like that! And it gives you Poly AT and a four octave ribbon in an affordable package. Use the Hydrasynth as a controller for the Cherry Audio GX80 gets you a very affordable CS80 emulation (along with the ultra rare GX-1) that is certainly good enough for me.
I have a Spectral Streams improv that I did live earlier this year, but never recorded, that has my Montage, Hydrasynth, Summit, Prophet X, Kronos and a few soft synths like the CA GX-80 all in a Vangelis homage blow out. I will need to try and record it sometime and then get people to try and suss out which synth was doing what part!
And of course you need to play in the style of Vangelis. Whilst I could not profess to trying to emulate his Poly AT and ribbon style yet, getting the right chord and scale mode is essential if you wish to get into the ball park - Vangelis favoured the Lydian mode in a lot of songs which gives you different chord choices and melody choices.
