That is odd these companies have their "Flagship" which is actually their development and research model which has a premium price tag not because it's worth that much but because they have to recoup the development costs.

Then they ride the coat tails of the flagship to release lesser models for a fraction of the cost.

I can't tell much difference in the $300 SeqTrak quality vs the flagship Yamaha. Proves we are getting ripped off on the flagship units more than we think. They know some people must have the best but it's the law of diminishing returns.

Nothing better for example as the YC73 beautifully constructed, obviously not crazy priced like a Nord, but can't come close to the SeqTrak's thousands of voices and editable FM/DX engine. I mean when the proposed budget runs up to the limit they stop cold hard turkey.

Literally $200 more dollars invested could have made it twice as good. Why? Because the bulk of the system is already present so why's adding more voices so extremely difficult? It's so bizarre understanding how they pull the plug instead of making it so much better for relatively little cost. We know the answer which is to sell the next generation model or a supplemental unit.

So it's probably very true that buying the Flagship is a rip-off and what settles to the bottom they repackage and repackage and repackage.....
It's the most bang for your buck because the flagship is covering the R&D costs and the rest is only gravy. The materials are probably cheaper but then the Genos is still plastic too.

I'm obsessed with quality and artistic visual presentation but yes if all you need is a hammer it doesn't matter whether it's shiny or not as long as it drives nails. Yamaha didn't invest much in the appearance of the Genos or the materials of it so you have to wonder where'd all that money go? I guess to people developing & programming the styles.

Double or triple the cost is significant so eyebrows get raised when we see these "knockoffs" coming out. Knocking off their own gear and you can't seem to account for the amount of cost reduction, it's fishy especially when they are still making a good profit from the knockoff. Genos is probably $1,500 to manufacture if that much. My friend used to work for Yamaha and he'd get units at cost but as he laughed he'd never say how much it was. His laugh told me it was really, really cheap.

These companies send out their units for YouTube review, it costs them nothing to give it away in comparison to the free publicity they get. Then we post our "free" videos and they get more free publicity yet their prices don't drop for us. Many of them say they don't get any breaks, buying gear at full price. Then we post on forums advertising for free and we still don't get any discounts. I mean they could ay least send out discount codes to many of us sharing their gear with the world.
