You are correct
Is there any other way? Shouldn't I be able to do this even without working battery?
I have run my SY77's without issue with a dead battery.
AS you'd expect, turning it on shows a garble on screen. While power was on
I reset it (V+D+8 ) and all was good. I left it like that for several weeks until I found the time
to change over the battery, in that time I used it frequently. any sounds made where
saved to floppy.
If you haven't already, get yourself a USB microscope inspect the traces/tracks on the DM1 board,
for any suspect tracks.
I bought a replacement board years ago when my first SY77 died, close up inspection of that one revealed
why the replacement was also dead (after it was quoted as 100%)
Be wary or the original backlight power source from CN118 on DM1 board,
If you ever do replace the OEM screen for after market LED backlit.
at most it can handle 100ma. you dont want to go over that.
