If trying out isn't enough and manual is not helpful, then what's your suggestion how to learn? How did you learn?

I think the book I linked above is pretty good. Unfortunately, as I already wrote, it is only available in German. In addition to this book, there is also a more in-depth book about styles by one of the two authors. It is called "Styles & Patterns" but is also only available in German and furthermore not available as a PDF file.

There is also much in-depth knowledge on Heidun's website. However, only in German. There are only very few translated articles in English on psrtutorial (https://psrtutorial.com/lessons/workshops/index.html).

That's what comes to mind right now.
