Hi Bogdan,
That is a really interesting question.
I have a foot in both camps as I have a Genos and a Korg PA4X.
I have been through Tyros 1,3 and 5.
I just compare simple things. I am already with one foot in the grave and do not have much time or brain power left.
I sit at the two keyboards and always play with headphones.
I sit at the Genos to play or create music to post either on a forum or on Youtube or create a backing track for my gigs and it is very nice. For me the Ensemble feature and specifically the string quartet is something that I cannot get on the Korg.
Then I sit at the korg with the same set of cans and I play something with a style and my immediate thought is Wow!!!!
Such a big sound that the Genos 1 cannot match. Then the physical keybed seems so much better as well. For that reason I play the Korg more than the Yamaha. So for me a simple decision and I am lucky enough to be able to directly compare but only in simple terms. The real downer is that the Korg is so darned heavy.
The Genos 2 has shifted the ball park again. Particularly in the area of Audio and Registrations which are now so much more than on anything else and leads to so many different possibilities. It sounds great to my ears as well and I listen to quite a few players and hear how much it improves what they do.
And now your question.
My PA4X is my oldest keyboard and the one that will need to be changed first. I am afraid of doing it in case I jump out of the frying pan into the fire. So "Is Korg (Pa5X) really "almighty"?". That is something that I would love to have the answer to.
Because if not then I need to change the Genos and keep my beloved PA4X.
I have a friend who owns both the PA5x and the Genos 2. He tells my quite simply that the Genos 2 is much better.
Then comes the decision re cost. Ok I think I will chill out and play my Stratocaster while I think about it or someone comes up with an answer that I can understand and afford.
Great article Bogdan. Thank You.
Best regards from me,
Barry.
