Yamaha PSR-SX Forum • Re: A short PSR SX900/920 Saga

A couple of successes in the ongoing quest for better piano sounds on the sx920.

First, this pretty much dealt with the sound reflection from the wall.

Some thick fabric (a meditation shall) in two layers and the acoustics of the corner are echo free.
As a bonus, the dark fabric made seeing the screen easier with the light there.

Secondly, some discussion on the Genos2 Sound thread here, and Mark's comment above, led me to hunt down some samples:
The best portable piano sounds I've heard, btw, are Nord Piano3/4/5/Stage3/4, Roland RD88 (absolutely superb Steinway D multi step sample, based off the old RD700sx/nx/gx... a stark contrast from all their algorithmically generated instruments), Yamaha CP1 (no longer in production), CP88 (especially with the new Bosendorfer and Steinway updates), and PS500.
Installed the Bosendorfer and Steinway samples from both of the links on this thread, made the adjustments suggested by Bogdan there, and the Bosendorfer is now my favorite piano on the sx920. A/B comparisons with the other piano voices, even those I purchased, and this one is my favorite.

Thank you to Misu on that thread, and to Bogdan for the adjustments, and to everyone discussing these things so that I have the feeling of connection to others and can understand things and find solutions that I'd never find with just the Yamaha support.
