There is no right or wrong. I have installed SA2000 pickups in a solid body and they sound very good. I would say the pickup provides 90% of the sound character and the body it is fitted is the balance. But then you get a good player and it all sounds the same (100% fingers)i wanted to install Spinex pickups into a self build LP Style solid body guitar. I bought a set off ebay not realising they were from an SA800 (SEMI) i am able to install them in the solid body but what will they sound like seeing that they came out of a semi?...many thanks.. Look at what Ibanez did with their Super70/80/58 pickups. They ended up in hollow, semi hollow and solid bodies and all sound great.
