It's taken me a little while to complete this, but to answer your request, I decided to push on with a project of mine to document the file formats in general that I know about.
In addition to your request above, a number of people have been recently asking for information, and whilst I do not want to release my librarian source code, I decided to publish the information I have on the file formats, and slowly work backwards and create templates for the different Yamaha file formats that I am familiar with.
I am publishing the information in 010 File editor Template format. Whilst you do not need 010 Editor to read the templates, as they are written in a C like code syntax, the power of an 010 Editor template is that you can run it over a file to decode the information within the 010 Editor, and thus see the template results for any file you run the template over.
I only started using 010 in about 2013, so all the file decoding work I did prior to that, including SY77 file decoding, was really hard work! Whilst 0101 does not remove the element of sleuthing needed, it allows you to understand it much more quickly as you can dynamically create and run the templates whilst you are looking at a file.
I am publishing this template information on Github under a project called Yamaha Synth File Formats, and specifically SY77 File Format.
Basically download these templates to your computer, and I would highly recommend you download and try 010 Editor, open a TNN, JNN or KNN file and run the relevant template: e.g. SY77 KNN File.bt for a KNN file.

I am happy to answer queries, and if you can help fill in the gaps on the unknown data, and maybe share what you have learnt on the MIDI track decoding, I may be able to add that into the templates as well, so it is fully documented for everybody.
