It must be totally psychological plus I think like an engineer and from a small child I loved to turn all the knobs I could find.

So something about knobs and sliders on a flat computer screen is fake to me like I'm being tricked and punked by the computer because I can tell those aren't real controls. I think some others of us have the same phobia if that's what it is. Obviously music production makes sense on a computer because of the interfacing and access to all parameters that are critical to a successful production.
For example say there's a computer VST replicating a trumpet and the sounds are samples of the best players who have ever lived. Say I have a valve type joystick so I can play the notes as if it's my real trumpet. I might sound like the greatest to ever play but it's still not me playing. I'd rather sound like me and grab the actual trumpet and hold it in my hands. Kind of the same although it's still samples at least I feel like I'm playing it.
The controllers perform a similar interaction but same as the trumpet I want to get as far away from a computer as possible since I make a living using CAD and I'm on it all day long.
After playing this Christmas and making my lips bleed I think this year I'm going to have to mic my trumpet and add effects and wear headphones as a monitor and play a lot softer. When I'm the only player and have 30 songs some several pages long I'm dead after going through them once. I love to blast my head off on the trumpet but it kills my lips too. It's time to pace myself and use technology.
As a tribute to your space pads I'm going to get that going and implement the 2025 "Space Trumpet" with atmospheric effects from the Meris Mercury and LVX.![:lol:]( "Laughing")
