Yamaha P Series • Re: Connect Yamaha P225 to Yamaha Reface CP or Nord Electro 3

I am not personally familiar with your devices so keep that in mind.
I didn't mess with changing any settings on either keyboard because it seemed to me the default settings should work, but maybe I'm suppose to?
The two most common issue I see with multiple devices are 1) powering the devices on in the wrong order and 2) using the wrong type of cable. Refer to page 39 of the P225 reference doc.

NOTICE
• Use a USB A-B cable of no more than 3
meters in length. Do not use a USB 3.0
cable.
• Before connecting to your computer via
the [USB] terminal, disable any power-
saving mode (such as Suspend, Sleep,
or Standby).
• Connect your computer via the [USB]
terminal before turning on the instru-
ment.
• Be sure to always perform the following
steps before turning the instrument on
or off (standby) and either plugging in
or unplugging a USB cable.
- Quit all applications.
- Ensure that no data is being trans-
mitted from the instrument. (Note
that even playing a single key
causes data to be transmitted.)
• When connected to a computer, allow at
least six seconds to pass between turn-
ing the instrument on and off and plug-
ging in and unplugging the USB cable.
Confirm that the USB cable you are using conforms to that notice and that you connect ALL of the devices BEFORE turning on the power to any of them.

Other info you posted suggests that maybe the P225 isn't sending out any MIDI.

Default settings typically work but you may want to re-init the P225 to be sure they really are the default settings. For example if the Transmit channel was set to OFF it wouldn't send any MIDI through the out port.

You can connect the P225 to a PC and use a midi monitor (e.g. MIDI-OX) to confirm that MIDI is really being sent out.

Also you should confirm that the transmit channel(s) of the P225 matches the receive channel(s) of the Reface. Double check that the channels match.

More basically the lack of a MIDI port on the P225 indicates it isn't really designed to be a controller so while it may eventually work Yamaha may not support that configuration.
