Phil - Thanks for your quick reply with the link to the New Features Guide. Helps a lot!Excellent. When working with external soft synths in a computer based DAW, the routing scenario is just what the doctor ordered. You can quickly and easily move back and forth between the MONTAGE M layer and your soft synth layer running via USB. And seeing the names, parameters, etc. of the soft synth, in your MONTAGE M screen makes working in this environment comfortable.Figured it out the proper Logic internal/external setup. Not sure why I was struggling. Probably the fact that everything was new (old if you count my previous Motif units from the early 2000's). Great to have my soft synth names appear in the Montage M sub-display.
Hint: While in [DAW REMOTE] mode, touching “Track” lets you control the DAW Tracks, etc; “Plug-in” let’s customize a front panel for your soft synth; touching “Transport” is a quick way to return the front panel to the Internal MONTAGE M engine without leaving DAW REMOTE, while the Transport buttons remain remote controls for your DAW.
__ Both queries were about using the MONTAGE M combined with soft synths which most likely means via USB (the 5-pin DIN is not even necessary in either question).
The USB-MIDI and Audio implementation of the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver services the multi-MIDI-channel, 32-bus audio environment just fine (imho).
(Off topic) _ In live scenarios, I recommend one device to be “master”… if you are using Camelot Pro, Canatible, or MainStage… or some other “live” stage organizer… it is probably best to have that one device address all others in your rig… one master to address all. You’re asking for trouble to ask one device to receive a command and then create a command for the next device. (imho).
