but for some reason when I am holding the keys to the layered performance and select the split performance, the sound stops instead of continuing until I change notes which should being up the new performance

I'm not sure but on the Modx SSS may be limited to performances with no more than 4 parts.

Do either of your performances have more than 4 parts?

This article by Bad Mister seems to say the Modx only supports 4 parts for SSS
