First, I want to say I love much about the M8x.
It's so very close to being everything I need in a live keyboard.
I'm finding one weaker area of the AN-X engine... that hearkens back to the OG Montage.
When programming a mono synth sound for the Bridge descending melody for Feel's Like The First Time:
The Filter articulation just isn't quite right.
I set the AN-X part to Mono... and it's automatically "Legato" for the Filter and Amplifier. I don't see a means to change/address this.
In this case, I want to have the Filter retriggered on legato notes that follow the initial note (filter cutoff controlled subtly by velocity).
Let's say I start with a lighter velocity (darker note)... then on the legato note that follows, I want to be able to use a slightly higher velocity for a brighter sounding note.
As is, if I strike the first note with a light velocity (darker), all following legato notes are dark.
This sounds very static by comparison to what I can achieve on the Nord Stage-4 (where you can individually choose Mono and Legato).
I really don't mean to sound negative, but this is one of the big reasons I abandoned the OG Montage.
For certain mono analog sounds... you just can't get there.
IMO, The AN-X engine needs separate controls for Mono and Legato... as well as an integrated Moog type filter.
The current 24dB Filter sounds (to my ears) pretty generic.
The M8x mops the floor with the Stage-4 in many areas, but this is one where the Stage-4 sounds far more authentic.
Just for giggles, I tried programming the same type of sound on my 3rd Wave (using its VA capabilities).
It's able to articulate the Filter (retrigger the Filter on legato notes based on velocity)... as on the Stage-4.
I was hoping to fully replace the Stage-4 with the M8x... but I'm thinking that probably won't happen.
If I'm missing something, I'd be extremely happy to be wrong.
Anyone else encounter this limitation (or others) with AN-X?
