Hello! I'm happy to have found this forum - I just searched and read a ton of posts, but I still have a question.
I just picked up a DX7s today. My inner 16 year-old-self is over the moon.
The keyboard won't make sounds from the headphone or output jack. Self-test reports the battery is at 2.9v. Patches are listed correctly, not garbled letters. I pulled the keyboard ribbon cables and reseated, no luck. Local is set to ON.
If I plug a midi cable out to another synth, I can control that synth with the keyboard, and the DX7s buttons patch change the remote synth. If I swap it to midi in, the other synth does not play the DX7s.
All keyboard keys / aftertouch/ mod /pitchbend work when I use it remotely. I found the service manual, and I ran through the self tests. Keyboard, buttons, midi all pass. There are no test tones from either the output jack or the headphone jack.
It looks like there was someone in here at some point in it's life: there's a blob of epoxy on a broken boss where the keyboard mounts, and the battery looks to have been replaced with slightly blobby solder added.
Any thoughts where I should be looking here? I have a multimeter, but no scope. I'm versed with troubleshooting and diagnostics, but not specifically with electronics.
