Yamaha MODX and MODX+ Forum • Re: Analog and USB Outputs

Hi,

I have spent a lot of time trying to find a way to fix this problem on my MODX6+, and it seems there is no soultion.
I simply want to send some parts to main analog output and some to USB digital outputs. Every part has a option to choose output, but anyway, if I choose USB as output, it still sends the sound to the Main L&R output (analog). If I turn off Direct Monitor in Utility than I don't have signal in Main output at all. Is it possible that there is no way to send signals separately?

Thanks for answering
It is not clear (at all) what you are trying to do. But your MODX+ is working properly. When using the MODX+ as your computer’s audio interface, signal you route out digitally (ie, USB) is removed from the MAIN L&R Outputs. If you are hearing it, it is because you are, literally, routing the signal back from your computer (DAW) to the Main L&R Outputs of the Audio Interface (which is built-in to the MODX+).

Don’t let the fact that the MODX+ IS your Audio Interface confuse you. Signal is returned from the computer to the Audio Interface so the performer can hear themselves (it’s for monitoring purposes). See the Audio Signal Flow screen in your MODX+. [UTILITY] > “Settings” > “Audio I/O”

It is not, at all, clear what you are trying to do (nor does it matter, really) but your MODX+ is operating properly.
If you have a DAW that allows you to route signal to another Audio Interface then route it there. But as long as you are routing the USB Out assigned signal back to the MODX+ as Audio Interface, then the Direct MODX+ signal and the latent USB routed signal will be merged to the MODX+ Main L&R Outputs.

Direct Monitor allows the MODX+ signal to go directly to the Main L&R Outputs allowing the performer to hear what they are playing without any computer latency (this is preferred)… during record you can MUTE the audio track in the DAW. This allows you to record with *zero latency*… not just low latency, but, literally, zero latency… you are hearing what you play *direct*.

You would opt to turn Direct Monitor = Off when you want to process the signal in your DAW (say with an effect plugin) — Direct Monitor Off prevents what you are playing from going directly to the analog audio outputs — only the digital USB audio is sent Out to your computer. This way when the DAW process and then sends the audio back to the MODX+ acting as Audio Interface you can monitor that signal with the applied plugin effect. The amount of time it takes for the computer to receive > process > and send back to the audio interface is called the latency.

The signals are routed separately, it is not working as you are thinking because *you* are returning the signal to the MODX+ merging them to the Main L&R Outs. If you had a MONTAGE or MONTAGE M (and a DAW like Cubase Pro, which allows for such routing), you could use the Main L&R for direct analog out, and return the DAW routed signal to the Assignable L&R analog outs.

Hope that helps.
