Yamaha Montage and Montage M Forum • Kudos to the Yamaha team for the semiweighted keybed

I feel like it's surprisingly difficult to find a good light-feeling quality semiweighted keybed these days. Either they have so much resistance that they're going to give you tendonitis (AKAI MPK line), or they have randomly hot keys meaning velocity isn't calibrated evenly between white and black keys (the NI Kontrol S-series quality control needs some serious retooling). My Montage M7 has by far the best semiweighted action I've ever played on. Every time I walk past it I immediately abandon what I was supposed to be doing and end up playing for an hour.

I'm sure the older Montage has the same keybed, maybe??, but I've never used it.

Even at the absolute back of the black keys, it doesn't require significantly more force to depress the keys. I didn't think I'd ever find a semiweight action that could compare against some of the better Fatar actions (TP/80 waterfall comes to mind on some of the Nords).

Now I just wish Yamaha would put this exact keybed in a straight-up minimalistic midi controller for less than $1200.
