An issue I battle often, I'm sure everyone does to some degree, C3 or C4 ?
I can open some of my VSTs now and some show as C3 while others show as C4
Roland says C4 Yamaha says C3 yet they both transmit the same midi note number = 60
and play the same pitch note 261Hz.
Typical tuning standard A4=440Hz, so how can C3 @130Hz be middle C?
It is confusing. Yamaha uses their own system. See also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_pitch_notation
I personally think it should be C5 to simplify and avoid using negative numbers.
MIDI note 0 = C0.
MIDI note 60 = 12*5, so C5.
MIDI note 61 = 12*5+1 so C#5
D6 => 6*12+2 = MIDI note 74
(C=0, C#=1,D=2, D#=3, E=4, F=5, F#=6, G=7, G#=8, A=9, A#=10, B=11)
I really would like to go back in time and rename C to A, so the octave goes from A to G, and not from C to B!
