AFAIR the 7805S is rated for 2A while 7805 for just 1A.
So if you actually need this kind of current there the regular 7805 won't do.

The power source is 12VAC 1.5A that's why there's the S version in there.

There's not really anywhere inside an SE70 to fit a DC step down converter.
A little bit different in this context.
