Yamaha Genos Forum • Re: Playing Lead Sheets With Styles on the Genos2

Hi Tom. I think you need to record a MIDI song using the Genos2 itself for the Chord data to show up on the LCD screen. When you make a MIDI file with a style using the ‘quick record’ option on the Genos2, the recorder embeds extra information in the MIDI file. This is called ‘XF’ data as you mentioned and contains, for example, the chord changes. When you play back the file, if it contains this XF data, then the chords can be displayed on the screen. So, to have the style data including chord changes show up on the LCD screen display in the Style window, you would need to record a song using MIDI record on your Genos2. You said you have the XF data for the Chords using your methodology, although to get the chord data/chord changes to show up on the screen, apparently you need to record the song using the Genos/2. You might want to place a call to Yamaha tech support and explain your situation and see if there is any alternative method to accomplish what you want.
